Alpha Phi Foundation has been committed to improving women's heart health for 58 years. Because of the hard work and generosity of our chapters and donors, we have a unique opportunity to further our impact through the launch of Take Heart. Take Part.
Alpha Phi Foundation is partnering with the American Heart Association (AHA) to build confidence in CPR skills among more community members by training all Alpha Phi collegiate members across North America in Hands-Only™ CPR - that's nearly 20,000 young women!
Hands-Only™ CPR is compressions without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse. It consists of two easy steps:
1. Call 9-1-1 (or send someone to do that)
Today AHA is calling on all citizens to learn how to perform Hands-Only™ CPR, and Alpha Phi Foundation is excited to play an important role in this movement by equipping our members with this life saving skill.
AHA has provided CPR training for more than 50 years. The organization currently trains more than 14 million individuals in CPR each year, only 3% of which are lay people.
By performing CPR, someone's chance of survival can double - even triple. For these reasons, the most important thing a bystander can do for a person in sudden cardiac arrest is to perform Hands-Only™ CPR to keep blood flowing to the heart and brain.
Alpha Phi Foundation is excited to take our commitment to women's heart health one step further and bring this life saving skill to every Alpha Phi chapter across North America. The Foundation is proudly funding 100% of the Take Heart. Take Part. program and will provide each chapter with Hands-Only™ CPR kits to use at a training session during the month of February. Following the AHA model to empower more lay people to teach one another, local Alpha Phi alumnae will be trained to facilitate the session for their local chapter, generously donating their time and talent.
