Alpha Phi Foundation has several volunteer opportunities for dedicated alumnae looking to donate their time and talent to Alpha Phi Foundation.
Heart to Heart Medical Reader
Every year Alpha Phi Foundation grants $100,000 to an organization advancing research or hands-on education in women’s heart health. Enlisting our alumnae with backgrounds in medical research and/or clinical care, we review and evaluate the quality of these applications.
2018 Heart to Heart Grant applications are due November 1, 2017. Each Heart to Heart Grant Medical Reader is then assigned approximately 5 applications to read and evaluate. All assigned applications are to be reviewed and scored between November 7, 2017 and December 7, 2017. Readers use our online SmarterSelect platform to evaluate applications at their convenience during the one-month time frame.
The top applications are then presented to the Foundation’s Board of Directors for final decision and the grant is awarded in February in celebration of Heart Health Month.
Red Dress Speakers
As one of the most well-known Alpha Phi philanthropy events nationwide, individual Red Dress events have raised well over $100,000 for Alpha Phi Foundation.
Throughout the school year, Alpha Phis across North America host Red Dress events to raise awareness and funds for Alpha Phi Foundation. Red Dress events typically include a sit-down meal, auctions or games, and a short presentation given by an Alpha Phi Foundation Red Dress Speaker.
Alpha Phi Foundation Red Dress Speakers travel to local collegiate chapter fundraisers to share their passion for the philanthropy and mission of the Foundation. Alpha Phi Foundation will provide each Red Dress Speaker with a prepared speech at least two weeks before the event date.
Alpha Phi Foundation awards more than $200,000 in merit- and need-based scholarships each year. We receive hundreds of applications from graduate and undergraduate Alpha Phis across North America and it is a special group of alumnae volunteers who help us evaluate these applications.
Scholarship applications are due on March 1st. Each Scholarship Reader is then assigned approximately 35 applications to read and evaluate. Within at least one full month, each Scholarship reader is expected to complete their evaluations using our SmarterSelect platform – an intuitive site that makes it fast and easy to review applications at your own convenience.
Each applicant is reviewed by five different scholarship readers and is given the final score based on the average of these five evaluations. The Foundation’s Board of Directors and Staff then review these scores and applications, awarding scholarships accordingly.
