New foundation to support scholarships to members at Canadian chapters in their academic pursuits

Evanston, IL – July 10, 2018 – Alpha Phi Foundation is proud to announce that Alpha Phi Foundation Canada has been incorporated and was granted charitable status by the Canada Revenue Agency on June 21, 2018. Alpha Phi Foundation Canada aims to provide support to Alpha Phi members seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees at Canadian universities. Alpha Phi Foundation Canada is governed by a Canadian Board of Directors led by Board Chair Ashley Haugh (Xi-Toronto), Board Vice Chair Alison Nash (Xi-Toronto) and Board Director Mary Chalmers Zakaluk (Eta-Boston).

“Our Canadian sisters are proud supporters of Alpha Phi Foundation and the leadership training, scholarships, and assistance grants it provides,” says Haugh, “Alpha Phi Foundation Canada will provide new ways for donors to support the academic dreams of our Canadian sisters through their philanthropy and charitable giving. This impact will shape future generations of women leaders on campuses, in communities and in the workplace.”

“Since Alpha Phi Fraternity established its first Canadian chapter in 1906 at the University of Toronto, our Canadian sisters have embraced philanthropy in their chapters and communities,” says Alpha Phi Foundation Board Chair Mary Beth C. Tully (Epsilon Psi-Lehigh), “Alpha Phi Foundation Canada is the next, vital chapter in the rich history of Alpha Phi’s philanthropic spirit.”

In April of 2018, Alpha Phi International Fraternity installed the Kappa Zeta chapter at McGill University. Today, Alpha Phi International Fraternity also has active collegiate chapters at the following Canadian educational institutions: University of Toronto, University of Manitoba, University of British Columbia, Bishop’s University, University of Western Ontario, Wilfrid Laurier University, and University of Ottawa.

“For several years, there has been a wish to create Alpha Phi Foundation Canada. We are excited for the opportunities that Alpha Phi Foundation Canada will create for our members in Canada,” says Alpha Phi Foundation Executive Director Amy Peebles.
